Most of us have read the story in Scripture of the widow who cast in the last of her income to the Temple treasury and most of us have probably heard this story right at the open of an invitation to give money into the offering during a church service. Great emphasis is often made concerning Jesus' acknowledgment of this poor widow who so sacrificially gave all she had. But have we missed something monumental in this passage? Could it be that tradition taught it to us wrong? Gary offers some convicting and sacred cow-smashing observations in this incredible examination of the full context of the passage. This message is a must hear! You will never think of the story of the widow's mite in the same way again... Every church-attending Christian who is familiar with this story (as well as every person who has stood behind a pulpit and used it to take up an offering) ought to listen to this message. This is one of my favorite passages in the book of Hebrews (which, by the way, also contains the verse that inspired the "Outside The Gate" Yahoo group accessible through this website). Thank you. :) KEITH GREEN VIDEO Keith Green was one of my favorite artists growing up and, still today, the story of his life is very inspiring as well as the many books and articles he wrote (which are largely still available through www.keithgreen.com). The following video clip is part three of a four part teaching he did concerning the misguided presentation of the Gospel that has become so popular in our day and why it is vital we do not mix the message. As I understand it, this was a training session to prepare workers for crusades and concerts. This message focuses on the biblical character Balaam; a prophet of God who misused his gifts and his relationship with God for personal gain. Ironically, today it seems this mindset (which God entirely rejected) has become commonplace in the institutional church system. Balaam, who thought that ministry was a good way to make money for a living, ended up with the infamous title of "soothsayer" (indicating that this often becomes the end result of prostituting the gifts and callings of God; you start to do what you can to keep the people happy and thus keep the paycheck steady... God regards such as a form of divination - Joshua 13:22). Balaam's error is repeatedly referred to throughout the Bible (all the way through the book of Revelation) with warnings following. Though Keith went home to be with Jesus in 1982 (at the young age of 28 years old), this message is just as timely in a day where it seems so many view "ministry" as a profession and engage whatever means possible to maintain their livelihood. Just before entering high school, he placed his trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Today, Dave fills numerous speaking engagements in many countries and is a frequent radio and TV talk-show guest. An effective means of communication between him and his readers is the monthly newsletter, The Berean Call, reflecting the unique ministry of exhortation and encouragement to which he has been called. Recognizing False Faith System is a message he gave a few years back warning Christians to be alert concerning the corruption of doctrinal purity that is spreading through institutional churches across the globe, robbing believers of a simple and devout faith in Jesus Christ while cleverly replacing it with Occultic teachings. This is an excellent message that is highly recommended. Dave has endured his share of criticism for some of the uncomfortable observations he has made of various teachers despite their popularity in the Christian community; however, one thing I appreciate about this guy is his calm consistency to examine Scripture in context and deal, not with mere speculation or presumption, but actual quotes by those whose word he is challenging. Dave Hunt - Recognizing False Faith Systems (Real Audio Stream - 29mb - 1hr:20min) Why I Left The Institutional Church Radio Interview With Frank Viola Frank is a high school psychology and philosophy teacher who is also heavily involved in what many refer to as the "house church movement". He frequently speaks at church-life conferences and authors books on Christ and His church. Frank left the institutional church at the age of 23. For the next eight years he experienced church life in a first-century styled house church in Tampa, Florida. Following this intense experience, he began sharing this message of first century-style Christianity and spends much of his spare time working with budding house churches and training them up in accord with what he sincerely believes God has taught him through the Scriptures in this regard. Frank is a prolific writer, an great teacher, and an arduous student of history and the Word of God. This recording is of an interview Frank participated in a few years back on live radio. The intent of sharing this message is not to necessarily promote "house churching" but to illustrate the reality that a first century-style expression of Christianity is 100% possible today and that what the Insitutional Church System has sold the world (and the body of Christ) is, really, a fraud with literally no base in the Scriptures at all. (Spiritual Warfar And Tactics - Training Evangelism And Ministry) was a street outreach group in Seattle I was involved with for a few years back in the late 1980's. My friend Drew and my friend Cornell both got off the streets through this outreach (both are in this video briefly - in the opening music montage, as am I if you can spot me). Or, they admit there's probably a bad apple or two but no one dares think it could be their favorite evangelist. The truth is there are very clever men out there whose only intention is to make money. One such man was Marjoe Gortner. In the 1950's he was known as the youngest ordained minister in the world (officially ordained at just 4 years old). As he grew to manhood, he traveled doing tent revivals, preaching, prophecying and working miracles... but the amazing truth was - Marjoe was a fraud! In fact, he claimed to be an atheist! His general view of "the ministry" was that it was no different than the entertainment business. In 1972 Marjoe decided to get out of the "ministry" but took one last ride on the tent revival trail... this time with a band of camera men and he exposed his own charade! His self-created documentary (titled "Marjoe") was made into a feature film and shown all over. Below is a 9 minute clip of him in action, both as a child and as an adult (the file is in Windows Media format). You'll notice how similar are his antics to any number of preachers who are regularly seen on TV today and in churches everywhere. It'll put chills down your spine how convincing he is as well. Next time you think it's unlikely that a well-known preacher could possibly be doing what he does for no other motive than money, remember Marjoe! Christians, stay alert, for many false anointed ones have gone out into the world! Today Marjoe is an actor and also a public speaker for social causes he cares about. Foremost among those causes is informing the public about some of the rhetorical techniques that are being used to manipulate their thoughts and emotions. He is still not a Christian, but he visits about 20 colleges a year teaching them how "faith-healers" do their "tricks". People actually still "fall down under the power" in his lectures as he demonstrates how the masters of religion work their "magic." While he says he cannot account for every experience that may transpire in a religious meeting, he believes most of the evangelists working up the crowds today are simply using proven and practiced psychosomatic techniques of manipulation (just like he did) that really involve no supernatural power at all and they are simply using these "skills" to operate their business. Peter Popoff Another famous (or perhaps we should say "infamous") preacher you may have heard of is Peter Popoff. In the early 1980's he was pulling in over 4 million dollars a year deceiving thousands. Then, he was exposed by a stage magician (and skeptic) by the name of Randi James. Randy attended one of the services where Popoff seemed to "prophetically" know people's names, addresses and ailments and, with a small FM scanner, he discovered that Popoff was being fed information through a wireless receiver in his ear (by his wife backstage). The levels were a little too hot while recording so there's a slight buzz when louder notes are hit, but thought you might enjoy it anyway. This was one of the first techno songs I made using the eJay program so the stereo effect is not quite as wide. Supernatural Phenomenon The following download is an MP3 of a very old recording I call "Cilegna". I call it that because there is an excerpt of this very same recording on the Christian techno/trance music album, Hydro Spiritualisation, also titled by the same name. I first heard about this recording when I was a young boy. Apparently four individuals were singing the well-known song "hallelujah" in an intimate setting (a soloist and three other singers in the background), however, when the tape was played back there was a whole choir of angelic voices present on the recording! Even before the singing started from the four persons present, this "angel choir" can be heard from the moment the recorder started. The voices on the tape ranged higher than any human voice can reach and the voices are constant, with no stopping for breath. Unfortunately, this recording is very old so the quality is severely diminished but it's still very cool! Could it be a hoax? Well, I suppose anything's possible; however, this recording was made long before the advent of computer audio editing software or the Internet so it's probably less likely. I'm optimistic that with God, all things (even some things that defy natural probabilities) are possible. Why would it surprise us who believe in Jesus that God indeed operates in the supernatural from time to time. Enjoy! Cilegna - Claimed Recording of Angels Singing Duncan Campbell - Re:Revival The following download is a very rare recording of the late Duncan Campbell (who hailed from Edinburgh, Scotland - you'll notice the accent). This is a sermon he preached in 1968 (Wisconsin) about a revival he was a part of in 1949; known as the Hebrides Revival - what many consider the last significant revival to hit the UK. Duncan was a man who passionately loved Jesus. He preached that revival was NOT a series of evangelistic crusades or tent meetings but a powerful manifestation of God in His people that actually changes a city. He did not simply regard numbers in altar calls as evidence of "revival" but real change motivated by a move of God's Holy Spirit among His people that takes them beyond religious routine into real Christian living. This message maybe somewhat familiar to those of you who are big fans of the UK Christian dance band "World Wide Message Tribe" as they featured excerpts of this very message in one of their popular songs called "Re:Revival" (click HERE to listen). For years I tried to locate a source with the full message and eventually found it, so I thought I would post it for fun. Those of you who used to be regulars at the Prayer Shack for the prayer meetings know how often the song (featuring Duncan Campbell's preaching excerpts) was played so I hope this will be a special treat for you guys too.
