 | Come Out Of Her My People - This excellent book by Peter Whyte was originally published in 1992 by Successful Christian Living (SCL) in South Africa. Previously, it had been my understanding that the title was out of print and I was unable to find any source that offered new or used copies of the work, so I scanned the book myself, converted it to Adobe PDF format, and then mailed a copy to SCL asking for updated contact information and formal permission to share the download. After a few months I received word from the author's friend, Jamie Campbell, that the book was still available through her publishing company, Lux Verbi-BM, but to wait until I obtained permission from Peter before offering it as a download. On July 6, 2006 I received a personal, hand-written letter from the author, Peter Whyte (now 76), granting me permission to offer the book free of charge as a download from this site. The 5th page of the e-book (which follows the Table of Contents page) contains all contact information for the author, publisher and distributor of the book (whom you may order hard copies through if you wish). Feel free to download this excellent book and share it with friends and family. In Peter's letter to me he said, "You are very welcome to put any of my writings on the Internet via your website. I do not write for gain. God's message is free, but unfortunately book publishers have to try and protect their interests: - I do not accept royalties." |
 | Pagan Christianity NEWLY UPDATED - by Frank Viola and George Barna. Have you ever wondered why we Christians do what we do for church every Sunday morning (or at least what most Christians do)? Have you ever asked yourself any of the following questions: Why do we "dress up" for church? Why does the pastor preach a sermon every Sunday? Why do we have pulpits and pews? Why do we have church buildings, steeples, choirs, and seminaries? Where did these things come from? This volume (number three in the series) makes an outrageous proposal: That most of what we Christians do in our churches has no root in the New Testament! It rather has its origin in pagan culture long after the death of the apostles. As shocking as that sounds, Viola (with the assistance of statistical researcher, George Barna of the Barna Group, proves his point by documenting every claim he makes. Fully footnoted, Pagan Christianity is the first book ever penned that documents the entire story of our modern church practices. If you are a Christian who is content with status quo "churchianity," then you will not want to read this book. It is reserved for those who are ready to embark on an eye-opening venture that challenges every aspect of their church experience as well as offering a better alternative. This excellent, thoroughly documented book is available at www.paganchristianity.org. A very highly recommended MUST READ! |
 | Are Christians Free Indeed or Enslaved By Religion? NEW BOOK - by Sean Smith. In clear, easy-to-understand prose, author Shean Smith explores how the church has muddied the waters of religion. Each chapter takes up a different aspect of church-going, from tithing to assembly, and explores why these church regulations sometimes do more harm than good. Smith offers concrete suggestions for making more of your faith, including making Christ the center of your life and doing away with the guilt forced on you by traditional organized religion (i.e. man's corrupt concept of "the church"). This warm and inspirational book can help you realize your freedom in Christ. A must read! Since discovering this book, I've had the opportunity to talk to Sean a few times on the phone and share e-mail conversation and he is a great brother with a sincere heart for only truth and seeing God's people set free to know Him without any distraction.

| The God's Honest Truth - This is an excellent book by author and friend Darin Hufford. This book challenges many of the preconceived religious notions so many of us were raised with and provokes the reader to honestly reconsider their view of God and who He really is - not according to what man has taught with his misguided religious concepts and his addiction to control and manipulate - but according to the truth as Jesus revealed Him. Darin puts things best in his own words saying, "I believe that our generation has made God out to look like an alcoholic father. We never know what we are going to get from Sunday to Sunday. From sermon to sermon, we are faced with blatant contradictions that eventually leave us feeling terrified of Him. WHAT IS THE TRUTH?" Great book! Deffinitely not traditional, deffinitely will be a shock to the system for religious head thinkers, and some may even find its content offensive or uncomfortable because it bucks traditional religious norms. The God's Honest Truth certainly raises some provoking challenges and soul-searching introspection. How do we relate to God? Are some of the concepts of Him we hold dear actually keeping us from drawing even closer to His heart? Have we made the Christian walk more about following rules, memorizing verses, engaging in religious works, and debating doctrines than we have truly pressed in to intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father? How are our priorities sorted? Darin speaks from the heart and conveys God's Honest Truth for those who have spiritual ears to hear. I've spoken with Darin personally and can tell you he is the real deal. Though there is presently no freely downloadable version of the book yet, I still recommended it wholeheartedly! :) If finances are an issue, I encourage you to write Darin and talk to him about it. |
 | Revolution - In this great new book by George Barna you will read the results of his studies that have discovered and described a growing national population of more than 20 million adults who are committed to living their faith and making God the top priority in their life. There is a new breed of Christ-follower in America today. These are people who are more interested in being the Church than in going to church. They are more eager to produce fruit for the kingdom of God than to become comfortable in the Christian subculture. These people Barna refers to as Revolutionaries and this book gives some insight to this present mounting phenomenon. Unfortunately, Barna does not offer a free version of his book to my knowledge; however, since he is such a respected author in terms of "church growth statistical reporting" among institutional religious groups, I wanted to inform readers about it. I have spoken on the phone with Barna's associate and best friend who helped him with the book and hopefully we'll be able to offer a free version in the future. I have asked permission... so we'll see.

 | The Naked Church - This great book by Wayne Jacobsen examines the loss of intimacy in the religious institutions of modern Christianity and invites the reader to discover an intimate friendship with the Living God. The Naked Church is simply one of the best books I've read on the subject of intimacy in our relationship with the Lord versus the religious routine. Many church-goers who are growing weary of that stale routine and find themselves desiring more than just the typical status-quo Christianity that most of us have been fed within the four walls will identify with the author's testimony and find strength, encouragement and likely some conviction too. I read this book when I first came out of the institutional church and it really encouraged me personally and helped me to focus my sights in a healthy way on the Lord through the struggle of understanding the transition. Highly recommended reading for every Christian (especially for any servant of God - including professional pastors - who have ever cried out to God and dared ask, "where is the manifestation of God's power and presence in the church today and why does today's church look nothing like what we read in the pages of the New Testament?)! For those of you interested, Wayne now offers a FREE downloable version of this entire book as well!!! CLICK HERE TO GET IT! |
 | The Priesthood of All Believers - This new book by Milt Rodriguez is among the best of the best! Jesus told us that men do not put new wine into old wineskins because the wineskin will burst causing the wine to be spilled and wasted. Milt presents a wonderful explanation from clear Scripture concerning the eternal purpose of God for His body and reveals so eloquently why it is that God's Son cannot be contained within the rigid walls of the religious system! But God desires that Christ would have the preiminence in ALL things. The book engages the reader to re-discover the importance of his position as a priest before God and tells us why the fullness of Christ being properly expressed through His body cannot happen with our present-day church practices. This is a fantastic book! Very challenging and spiritually motivating. Highly recommended reading for every serious Christian! |
 | Will The Real You Please Stand Up - This three message series on cassette includes: (1) Being Real Before God - why it's important that to tell God what's really going on in our thoughts and feelings, instead of just repeating the things we think He wants us to say. (2) Being Changed from the Inside Out - how God uses our conscience to transform us and why we cannot allow anyone, even leaders, to insert themselves between us and Father. (3) Living by Reality Not Appearances - how to live free of the preoccupation of what other people think of you, and be real with God's work in you and with people around you, regardless of the consequences. This is an amazing teaching set that I very highly recommend! Wayne Jacobsen, author, teaches in churches, universities and home groups around the world on spiritual intimacy under the auspices of Lifestream Ministries. He is also the President of BridgeBuilders which helps resolve religious tensions in public education. Wayne also is a writer for the Koinonianet Website, which features articles and resources on the subject of relational Christianity. |
 | Your Love Broke Through: The Keith Green Story (DVD/VHS) - The long awaited documentary of Keith Green, a life that has challenged and inspired countless lives. Told by the people who knew Keith best, this biography is a story of God’s love impacting a generation by living a life without compromise. Because Keith's message was really a simple call to live out the Gospel, it remains as relevant today as when he first sang and spoke it. The video (available on DVD & VHS) is 63 minutes in length and features interviews with a number of Keith's family and friends. Also included are 2 music videos and other rare footage of the late Green. This is a great video!!! Very inspiring and a must for every Keith Green fan. If you're not familiar with Keith that's ok too, this video will encourage and inspire you. Highly recommended!!! |
 | God's Outlaw (DVD) - A true story, God's Outlaw is about international politics, church intrigue, cold-blooded betrayal, and false justice ending in a criminal's death. But it's also about victorious faith and spiritual triumph over some of the greatest political and religious forces known in the 16th century. This 93-minute film depicts William Tyndale's obsession with translating the Bible into English, and the voyage he made to avoid capture by kings and the pope. The tale of how he lived and died as "God's outlaw" is a compelling story and is especially a moving encouragement for modern people of faith. Highly recommended viewing for the whole family. |
 | Luther (DVD) - Released in 2003, Luther is an amazing film that will inspire. Kathleen C. Fennessy gave a fine, brief description of this movie, which I generally/mostly agree with. She said, "Like the Passion of the Christ, Luther is the story of a spiritual leader, German monk Martin Luther (Joseph Fiennes), in opposition to the religious orthodoxy of the time (in his case, the 1600s). His goal--to bring God to the people and to take money, fear, and shame out of the equation--made him a reformer to some, a heretic to others. Released around the same time as Mel Gibson's blockbuster, it failed to attract the same degree of attention--or controversy. Granted, it's a different film, but not radically so. Directed by Eric Till (Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace), Luther isn't always easy to follow or as emotionally involving as it could be. That said, it's a fascinating story and Fiennes receives solid support from Alfred Molina (Frida), Bruno Ganz (Wings of Desire), and the late Sir Peter Ustinov (Spartacus), in his final film role, as Frederick the Wise." |
 | The Torch of the Testimony - This book chronicles the 2,000 year history of those Christians - and churches - that have stood outside the Protestant-Catholic tradition. This book was originally published in India in 1964 and is little known in the western world. Beginning in the first century John Kennedy traces the history of Christian groups who remained outside formalized religion down through the ages. A stirring, passionate and sometimes heart-rending story of suffering to the centrality of Christ within the Body of Christ. John W. Kennedy is from Great Britain but has lived in India since 1952 ministering among indigenous and apostolic Christian groups. This is an amazing book! |
 | The Way of a Man with a Maid - This is the absolute best book you will ever read concerning the subject of the "courtship and betrothal" movement that has influenced so many churches in our day... and now, the full version of the book is available FREE online!!! Robin Phillips, author, is a brother who is deffinately not ignorant about the dangers and biblical errancies intricately woven into and saturated throughout this popular teaching. Robin was himself raised under this teaching (his own parents being some of the most prominent, well-known proponents of courtship theology known to Christiandom) and has been involved (on some personal and experiential level) with some of the most prominent leaders around the country who teach the courtship concepts. This book will draw your attention to the simple truth of Scripture and will encourage and help you understand God's heart in the process of building positive, godly male-female relationships and strong marriages. | Why Do You Call Me Lord? - by Chip Brogden. Jesus asked a lot of questions. His questions are sometimes humorous, sometimes self-evident, sometimes offensive, sometimes controversial. At the same time, His questions are always honest, always powerful, always life-changing. Almost all of them appear in this little book, arranged for devotional study. A must read indeed!!! |
 | Peter Sellers in Heavens Above (DVD) - Considered a bit too sacrilegious for general consumption in 1963, the Boulting brothers' Heavens Above was simply ahead of its time, and has since accrued a loyal and vocal following. Peter Sellers plays an idealistic British reverend with a bad habit of telling the truth at all times. He also follows his conscience whenever possible, resulting in several cleric decisions that shock his wealthy, landed-gentry parishioners. By inviting such "undesirables" as gypsies and West Africans to worship freely in his church, Sellers rouses the ire of the rest of his white-bread flock. He does, however, compel the selfish owner (Isabel Jeans) of a laxative firm to "see the light" and to sell off all her holdings on behalf of the poor and downtrodden. Unfortunately, by doing this the woman wrecks her business--which is the principal source of income for the community where Sellers works. Retreating from town with an angry mob on his heels, Sellers relocates on a tiny island in the Pacific. Since the island is the site of a missile base, and since the local astronauts have shown signs of agnosticism, where else is there for Sellers to go...but up? (review from All Movie Guide - Hal Erickson) This is simply a great movie with so many strong Christian themes in it. It's funny, clever, inspirational and thought-provoking. A near-classic black and white film. The DVD picture and sound quality are also excellent. Peter gives a great performance as a sincere pastor who believes the Gospel of Jesus fully and is inspired to live it out but finds how resistant both society and even organized religion are to the "real thing." Worth watching. |
 | Revolution - This is a good book, authored by Gene Edwards. Revolution is a rip roaring, hair raising, edge-of-your-chair sage of the first century believers. From the day of Pentecost on, through the first seventeen years, every historical figure of that age is there: alive, vivid, believable. The book of Acts is there; ancient history is there; men secular and sacred come alive! An historical cliff-hanger written like a novel. The story of The Early Church, the word of God in century one is once more alive, down to earth and thrilling. A new dimension in first century history. Forget the sci-fi imaginations of Left Behind; Revolution is a sincere accounting of history and will educate as much as it will inspire you with a fresh insight into the true story of the New Testament Church. |
 | Houses That Change The World - This book has been called "prophetically shocking" and, as Professor Kenneth B. Mulholland (Dean of Colombia Biblical Seminary) put it, "A far more significant book than I expected. It challenges many sacred cows, demonstrates remarkable biblical, theological and strategic insight." Wolfgang Simson (author) begins with his 15 Theses For A Reformation of Church, and then continues through with a historical look at "house churches". This book, many have reported as stirring, challenging, inspiring, convicting and exciting... not to mention radical. While this book (leans toward and) gives insight into some of the prevailing theology behind what many are calling the "house church movement" in a greater sense, it seeks to tackle the topic of modern church practice and why it pales in comparison to (and, actually, has nothing to do with) what we read in the pages of the New Testament. One thing is certain, no matter what conclusions a person chooses to make about how they personally choose to gather with other believers, this book shakes the foundation of man-made religious institutionalism and places it smack dab in confrontation with the truth of God's Word. As the author of this site, I do have some caution about making too much emphasis on the "place" of meeting rather than the simple life we share together. That concern aside, I think Simson presents a quality work that will encourage and enlighten many. His book has its critics, naturally, which is yet another reason why I like it. So far I have not been able to track the author down to ask about a freely downloable version of the book. If anyone reading this knows of his e-mail address, please let me know so I can ask.

 | Like A Mighty Wind - First printed in 1971, this intriguing book by Mel Tari and Cliff Dudley about the amazing revival that exploded in Indonesia, is still relevant in our day! When first released it rose to the top of the charts and stayed there for 13 consecutive months and sold over a half a million copies! Mel shares some incredible testimonies with respect to the miraculous power of God manifested among His people. Mel speaks strongly to Christians in America to answer some of the questions why he believes we don't typically see the manifest power of God like they often do in other countries. He also focuses strongly on the purpose for the miraculous (which is not merely so we can enjoy goosebumps over watching neat stuff happen). The book is very good and will certainly encourage many Christians who are desiring to see a more prominent manifestation of God's power among us and, more importantly, understanding the purpose behind the miraculous. Mel is still alive and people who have walked with him continue to give testimony that the miraculous is still happening right now today in many places around the world! I wish I could find a way to contact him and ask for a free version of the book. Something to keep working on I guess... The last I checked, the price tag was only $6.99, which is very reasonable. |
 | Brethren, Hang Loose - This is the story of a church that found a new face. Pastor Bob Girard (author of Brethren, Hang Loose) saw his young church slipping into the same complacent, established doldrums that plague so many congregations. He has written out of frustration with the institutional, evangelical church, its inability to give control of itself to the Holy Spirit, its preoccupation with secondary things, and its lack of spontaneity, freshness and genuine spiritual power. Girard tells the story of a dangerous, daring commitment, of abandonment to the Lordship of Christ in the life of the church he pastored and within his own life. This is truly an impacting, emotional and encouraging story touched with humor and tears. Girard accounts how that when pastor and people reached the point of emphasizing genuine spiritual growth toward maturity, rather than "success" in the accepted sense of the word, for them renewal began. Girard shares the keys that can unlock renewal in the church and also explains the biggest roadblocks that prevent it from happening. Principles are given in this book which are helping one church to recapture a New Testament quality and style of life which God may once again be able to use in making the church a demonstration of the reality of the Living Jesus to a world that urgently needs to "see" Him. The book was published in 1972 and is currently out of print, but several copies may still be available online from used book stores, Amazon.com has several. I encourage you to get a copy before they're all gone. This book is still extremely relevant today! Currently, I am attempting to obtain permission from the author to post the entire text of this book on my site! O contacted Zondervan Publishing House and they advised me to contact the author, which so far I have been unsuccessful. This would be great to allow more people to read it, since it is hard to find copies of. Also, read my complete review of this book (as is posted on Amazon.com) by CLICKING HERE! |
 | Brethren, Hang Together - This is the "sequel" to the wonderful book "Brethren, Hang Loose" by Robert C. Girard. Here Robert shares even greater insight concerning the restructuring of the church for relational fellowship under the Headship of Jesus. If you've had the privilige of reading "Hang Loose", you must get your hands on a copy of "Hang Together." If Amazon.com does not have this book or if the price is too high, also try AbeBooks. I am attempting to get permissions to post this book on my site in electronic format also! Lord willing, I hope to be able to have both "Hang Loose" and "Hang Together" available for download from my site within the next several months. |
 | God Tells The Man Who Cares - A.W. Tozer was a precious man of God whom many heralded as a 20th century prophet. He was a favorite of the late Keith Green and he's a favorite of mine as well. Though Tozer passed away in 1963 the message he preached, as presented in this book, is just as relevant for today's Christian. This book was a blessing to read with some very good and challenging insights. Highly recommended reading at a very affordable price! |
 | Radical Renewal: The Problem of Wineskins - This book will encourage you to take a deeper look at the current church structure. Wine (the Gospel of Jesus Christ) and Wineskins (the man-made structures of the church). How do the two relate? What happens when new wine is poured into old wineskins? What about making new wineskins? In short: What kinds of church structures are most compatible with the gospel in our modern, techno-urban society? Author, Howard Snyder, addresses these questions-and provides some challenging answers. |
 | The Normal Christian Church Life - Watchman Nee (1903 - 1972) is remembered for his leadership of an indigenous church movement in China as well as for the books that continue to enrich Christians throughout the world. Beginning in the 1930s, he helped establish local churches in China that were completely independent of foreign missionary organizations and were used to bring many into the kingdom of God. During conferences held in Shanghai and Hankow, Watchman Nee spoke to his fellow-workers on the principles in the New Testament concerning the practical arrangement of the churches, the ministry, and the work. In his speaking, he honestly examined his own work before the Lord in the light of these principles, provided adjustment and encouragement to his co-workers, and confirmed through personal testimony that the practice of the normal Christian church life revealed in the New Testament can be recovered. This is a radical (i.e. non-typical) book that will challenge, convict and inspire. |
Watchman Nee was one of my favorite authors, especially nearing my last days in the institutional church system. I can't say that I have always agreed with every detail of all of his writings and I am aware that some religious leaders have used his works to elevate their religious empires and abuse God's people, but I believe he was a sincere and pure-hearted, God-fearing man who loved the Lord and dared to seek out a New Testament expression of the Church in action. It's not surprising to me that some today would distort some of his writings to justify what they do. If you have a pastor that is using Nee as a textbook, be on your guard and excercise discernment for I know of those who have misused Nee for expressly this purpose. Let the Lord lead you in all things and be wary of men that try to presume the rightful place of the Holy Spirit in your life. What encouraged me about Nee is that he dared to trailblaze where others would not even consider (yes he made mistakes too). Because of his radical abandon to the truth (not to mention his anti-typical manifestation of Christian ministry) he was imprisoned and suffered greatly but much fruit followed his decision to abandon all to Christ. The above mentioned book is my favorite among all the ones he wrote. You can see a list of other books available at CBD by this author (if you're interested) by clicking the link below. (PLEASE NOTE: Watchman Nee's successor, Witness Lee, led many people into heretical teachings. Be careful not to confuse Witness with Watchman for this reason!)
Watchman Nee
 | Should The Church Teach Tithing - Following a thorough examination of every biblical text on tithing, Dr. Russell Earl Kelly concludes that the church would be best served spiritually by believing and applying better New Testament principles of giving. After discussing sound biblical reasons for Christians to replace tithing, he presents God's better principles of grace. Doctrines such as the New Testament concept of law and covenant and the priesthood of believers are presented as they affect tithing. Following several chapters that discuss disputed texts relating to pastoral support, this book traces the early development of church support as found in the Church Fathers before Nicea. This book leaves no question or objection about tithing unanswered and gives some very clear, biblical encouragement towards the kind of liberty and and release of the Spirit in our gatherings that may transpire when we embrace the Lord's New Covenant way of giving. Russell's book is a "must read" for any serious Bible student. Highly, highly, highly recommended! |
 | Rethinking The Wineskin - Frank Viola takes a ground-breaking look at the nature and life of the early church through the lense of God's eternal purpose. The book discusses the principal practices that marked the New Testament church and boldly compares them to those of today's modern church. A must read for all who have a passion to see a first-century mindset concerning the Gospel and the family of God restored to the Body of Christ today. This book is also available at Amazon.com, however, Seedsowers is generally much cheaper. I recommend you check both. |
 | Who Is Your Covering? - Frank Viola takes a inctricate look at the subject of biblical authority, submission and church leadership through the lense of Scripture. The book discusses the common misconceptions about what true New Covenant leadership is intended to look like and how far the church today has strayed from it. IF YOU HAVE EVER SAT UNDER "COVERING" TEACHING AT ANY TIME IN YOUR CHURCH-ATTENDING DAYS, GET THIS BOOK!!! IN FACT, GET TWO AND GIVE ONE TO THE TEACHER WHO TAUGHT YOU! THIS BOOK SHAKES THE UNBIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS OF THE MODERN DAY COVERING DOCTRINES THAT ARE INCREASINGLY POPULAR IN INSTITUTIONAL CHURCHES TODAY! But Frank does far more than just point out the problems and misconception, he also sheds fresh light on how to secure Christ's Headship in His Church today. This is the only book in print that deals with the subject of spiritual 'covering' in such a thorough manner. Every person in "the 5-fold" ministry on planet earth and every church attendee should get this book! It should be required reading in every church leadership class and especially for every person who "aspires to the oversight." Frank deals with virtually every passage in the New Testament on church leadership and examines the context and original Greek language the Bible text was written in to give a complete, honest and clear view of what God intends for those He has called to serve His body. You will be stunned, amazed and encouraged at what you thought you knew but didn't! This excellent, must-read book is also available at Amazon.com, however, Seedsowers is generally much cheaper. I recommend you check both. |
 | The Simple English Bible (SEB) NT - This is a great Bible translation. Published in 1980 and currently unavailable in stores, the Simple English Bible translation is based on a working text used for the production of modern foreign Bibles. It has a 3,000-word vocabulary and the sentence structure commonly found in newspapers and magazines. Extremely easy to read. Also, this is not a paraphrased Bible but an actual translation and very accurately presents the meaning of the original Greek languages. The link will take you to the ministry's site that is offering copies for a donation of $25. Highly recommended. Excellent for Bible study. |
 | Young's Literal Translation (YLT) OT & NT - Published in 1862 and then revised in 1887, this version of the Bible presents a clear and readable translation from the Greek text of Scripture. Robert Young sought to correct certain inaccuracies in the King James Version in this very literal translation. Highly recommended, good for study and general reading, hard to find... Took some searching to come up with a store that sells it, but we found one! |
 | Green's Literal Translation Bible (LITV) OT & NT - This is another excellent version of the Bible in a literal translated form. Very readable although, like most literal versions, takes a little getting used to when you're perhaps more familiar with other versions like the KJV or NIV... This one is, in my opinion, a little easier to read than Young's Literal Translation! |
 | Exposing Seventh Day Adventism - by Russell Earl Kelly, PhD is a former SDA pastor who has served churches in Georgia, North Dakota and South Carolina. In 2000 he received a Ph. D. at Covington Theological Seminary in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia and went on to author the number one best seller (on Amazon.com) "Should The Church Teach Tithing" (available for free through this site). In his current book, Russ expresses concern over how Seventh-day Adventism entices members into it using trickery and half-truths. They tell the unenlightened public one thing and insiders yet another. Dr. Kelly explains how he was tricked into joining. He then refutes the theological fiasco called the Investigative Judgment which created the sect. Much of the book looks at the Sabbath with fresh insight. The final part reveals the mysterious realms of Sheol and Hades in order to expose SDA error about the soul. This book is labor of love, by a brother who knows what he's talking about first-hand, for those precious people God loves that have been deceived through this false Christian cult. If you have friends or family involved in the SDA Church or simply want to know the truth yourself, check out this excellent book.

 | Book by Matthew E. Narramore - I was introduced to this great book by Matt Narramore a couple years back through one of the Yahoo groups I subscribe to. It's called "Tithing: Low-Realm, Obsolete & Defunct." Rather than going into great detail concerning the Old Covenant practice, Matt takes a simpler, focused approach to the subject of tithing by examining it primarily in light of the New Covenant. I have not finished the read yet but am enjoying it thus far. The book is for sale through most online booksellers (I purchased mine through Amazon.com) and Matt graciously offers the full edition free online for those who cannot afford a copy. Check it out! |
 | Subtle Deception - by Lawrence Vanyi. Modern misguided evangelical empire-building at the institutional church level has systematically for the most part, attempted to replace Christianity with its own brand of organized religion. This subtle deception has taken more than 1,700 years to develop and permeate society and typical Christian thought, but develop well it has… So well, in fact, that even some of the greatest ministry personalities of our time have made the mistake of thinking that Christianity and organized religion are one and the same…but they are not. What's wrong with organized religion you say? Did you suppose that's what Christianity was all about? Did you suppose that its church building origins are biblical? And what's the fuss anyway? Does it really matter if the Lord's people are more "organizationally" or "institutionally" minded than they are "relationally" minded? This book examines some common misconceptions about modern-day churchianity and, specifically, the subject of tithing, money and the ministry.

 | The Maker's Diet - After facing an "incurable" disease, Dr. Rubin baffled conventional doctors by discovering a cure - by turning to "man's first - and only - true health plan" using the dietary principles found in the Bible. The Maker's Diet is a truly holistic approach that: Boosts the immune system, Enables followers to maintain ideal weight, Produces abundant natural energy, Improves physical appearance, Reduces stress, and Helps digestion. Dr. Rubin outlines what he calls four pillars of health (spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional), and prescribes a plan for diet, nutrition, exercise, hygiene, and body therapies for complete and total physical and spiritual wellness. There is a lot of fantastic health information in this book although, in my opinion, the spiritual side gets a little "hyper-religious" sometimes in that the author suggest daily religious regiments of rote praying and word-faith type meditations. I personally disagree with this non-relational approach to communication with God and His Word; however, all religiousness aside there is a vast resource of great health information and encouragement that readers can glean from this book.
